St. Simeon was the son of Cleophas (St. Joseph’s brother), and a cousin of Jesus. After the martyrdom of St. James the Lesser in 62 A.D., St. Simeon was elected his successor and second bishop of Jerusalem. Four years later, St. Simeon was warned of the impending destruction of Jerusalem. He led Christians to exile in Jordan until it was safe to return and Christianity flourished there.
